Today and tomorrow, 16 and 17 June, the Delegation form the Holy See’s Dicastery for Evangelization led by the Pro-Prefect, Archbishop Rino Fisichella, will be in Panama City to meet with Spanish-speaking representatives from the Latin American Bishops’ Conferences.

The meeting has been organized in collaboration with the Catechetical Laboratory of CELAM (the Latin American Episcopal Council). In all, 13 countries will be represented.

The meetings between the Dicastery and the relevant sections of Bishops’ Conferences, began after the publication in 2020 by the then Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization of the Directory for Catechesis and the Motu Proprio Antiquum Ministerium by which Pope Francis, in 2021, formally instituted the ministry of catechist.

As in the meeting with US delegates, among the aims of the gathering were to listen to the experiences of local Churches, the desire to understand better the reception of the Directory and the work of the Conferences of Bishops to promote at a local level the new ministry of instituted catechist.

Last, but not least, the Dicastery reaffirmed its desire to support catechists, encouraging them and thanking them for their work in dioceses all over the world.
