The series of meetings between the Pro-Prefect of the Holy See’s Dicastery for Evangelization, Archbishop Rino Fisichella, and the heads of catechesis among the world’s episcopal conferences continues.

Following on from the Rome Congress which brought together the Heads of Evangelization of the various Bishops’ Conferences of Europe in September 2021, and the Ottawa Congress of September 2022 for Canada’s evangelization chiefs, today, 13  June 2023, a delegation from the Dicastery, led by the Pro-Prefect met those responsible in the USA for efforts at evangelization at a gathering in Orlando, Florida.

Among those present were many bishops with responsibility for evangelization commissions, National Directors of catechesis and members of national evangelization teams. Also taking part were the US organisations National Community of Catechetical Leaders (NCCL), National Catholic Association of Educators (NCEA), Federation for Catechesis with Hispanics (FCH), National Association of Lay Ministers (NALM).

Among the aims of the meeting was that of listening to the experiences of the local Church, understanding better their efforts to promote and welcome the Directory for Catechetics and learn more about their work to promote locally the profile of the instituted catechist.  Last, but not least, the Dicastery reaffirmed its desire to support catechists, encouraging them and thanking them for their work in dioceses all over the world.
