On Wednesday, September 2, 2020, in the Library of the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization, the Superiors, Officials, and Staff gathered to say farewell to H.E. Most Rev. José Octavio Ruiz Arenas, Archbishop Emeritus of Villavicencio (Colombia), whose term of office as Secretary has come to an end with the acceptance of his resignation which he had submitted to the Holy Father last December on his seventy-fifth birthday, as required by canon law. Archbishop Ruiz Arenas was an Official in the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith before becoming Auxiliary Bishop of Bogotá and then Archbishop of Villavicencio. He returned to the service of the Holy See in 2007 as Vice-President of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America. We extend to him our gratitude for his commitment to the New Evangelization and for his service to the Pontifical Council of more than nine years.
